The Church dedicates the month of June to The Sacred Heart Of Jesus.
This tradition dates back to the 17th century when St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, a French nun, had visions of Jesus Christ revealing His Sacred Heart to her. She said she learned the devotion from Jesus during a series of apparitions to her between 1673 and 1675.
The visions revealed to her the form of the devotion, the chief features being reception of Holy Communion on the first Friday of each month, Eucharistic adoration during a “Holy hour” on Thursdays, and the celebration of the Feast of the Sacred Heart (this coming Friday).
The Sacred Heart of Jesus said to St. Margaret Mary: “Make reparation for the ingratitude of men. Spend an hour in prayer to appease Divine justice, to implore mercy for sinners, to honour Me, to console Me for My bitter suffering when abandoned by My Apostles, when they did not watch one hour with me.”
