St. Mary’s Grotto

Bishop Hugh Gilbert OSB, and a gathering of clergy and pilgrims from across the diocese arrived at St Mary’s on Saturday.
The statue was purchased in Lourdes and brought to Beauly in July. For many years to come, the grotto
will provide a place of devotion and quiet reflection for everyone who visits St Mary’s Beauly.
After the Mass, Bishop Hugh led a procession across the orchard to the grotto where he blessed the statue. Photographs and video of the Mass and Blessing ceremony will be available thanks to
Basia and Wolfgang.
Many parishioners contributed with donations, pointing, gardening, adding flowers both inside and at the church entrance and in front of the grotto. This will no doubt encourage further enhancements such as seating, pathways, etc. Our sincere thanks must go to Alasdair Mackenzie Stonemasonry Ltd. (Alasdair,
Rachel and Chris) for their dedication and effort resulting in a first-class job.
Thanks also to the men of the glen who provided a gazebo for shelter and refreshments. And thanks to the children and assistants for making Apple Crumble delicacies as gifts for pilgrims, and not forgetting the many, many volunteers who cleaned and setup for the Mass and the church, plus those prepared, contributed, and organised food and refreshments.
This truly was a labour of love, of which, I am sure, Our Blessed Mother Mary will approve.
